About Josh
Josh is the founder of The Abandon Project and is a native of Asheville, North Carolina. Joshed was raised by his mother and grandparents and came from humble beginnings. His mother worked 3 jobs just to put food on the table and make ends meet, and often times, Josh and his sister would stay home and tear stuff up… literally. Josh spent most of his childhood playing sports, and bumming rides from coaches to get to games and practices. With a childhood full of broken promises, feelings of abandonment, and lack of direction, Josh represents one constant, and that is the faithfulness of a God who is ever compassionate and loving.
At the age of 14, Josh and His family moved to a new community where He would eventually attend AC Reynolds High School. Josh turned to football as his outlet in life, and began to work hard towards his goal of playing in college. In 1999, His team won the 4A football State Championship and although Josh had influence, He decided to use it for His own glory. He did accomplish His dream of playing college ball (which made his mother happy), getting a football scholarship to Mars Hill College, a small division II School. Josh had no idea that God was about to change his life through a span of events that involved Godly friends, shattered dreams, and taking risks. It was in Josh’s college years that God allowed his idols to be torn down (women, football, and himself)leaving a sense of brokenness and despair. Josh learned that God often shows His beauty in the midst of brokenness, and began to sense an unusual call to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Josh is is currently pursuing a masters in theological studies from Liberty University.
Josh currently resides in Charlotte, NC where he sells insurance for Farm Bureau as his “tent making” job. He has had the opportunity to preach in Guatemala and Africa in the past year, opening his eyes and giving Him a whole new perspective on the Gospel. He has spoken to youth groups and singles all over the country, and has a dream of seeing peoples’ lives transformed by the Gospel of Jesus Christ. When Josh is not working or spending time with kids at a camp or retreat, He enjoys writing songs, playing the guitar, and loves reading a good book. He loves authors Francis Chan, Kenny Luck, A.W. Tozer, and many more. Josh has been in Independent Baptist, Southern Baptist, Charismatic, and Pentecostal backgrounds, giving Him an interesting perspective on the church. He looks forward to making Jesus famous and seeing what God has in store.
